Seattle or Bust

I'm moving to Seattle. I feel like it would rain less there than it does here.

I really shouldn't complain, because, believe it or not, I'm one of those people that actually sort of likes the

It's refreshing, it makes the air smell fresh and clean like only rain can, it makes the colors bright and vivid, and the plants green. It gives you the perfect opportunity to walk across campus with your giant umbrella, splash in the puddles and bellow out "Singing in the Rain".

I may not be Gene Kelly, but on days like this I could be.

Ads, really really creepy ads...

I was just now, RIGHT THIS VERY MINUTE, perusing through the blog worlds of my friends and I started to notice an interesting trend. The ads, you know, those little boxes at the very top of these things, ↑ up there, above my posts. They aren't the same on everyone's pages. You're probably thinking that they just rotate, and that explains the difference. BUT, in fact, they are personalized based on what is talked about in your Blog. It's cool, huh? Or is it creepy? I'm still undecided myself, I mean, how do they know that much. I don't want to think about it. All I want to think about right now is my sweet, sweet bed.

HERE I COME, BABY!

that's all.

42, or my experiences with cell phones and my friend Micah

Tonight, the long awaited arrival of the 42 game was finally going to commence. It was me, Jason, Micah, and a reluctant 4th, Kayla. We got our act together, sat at the table, and then started to play. And then, it happened. Micah's phone rang. It rang again. And again. And again, until finally, we weren't even sure if we were still playing anymore. It was interesting, in fact, I'm still not sure we actually played. Perhaps I'm sleeping right now and it was all a dream.

oh well. love ya Micah (despite your phone).

Saddam Gina, U crazy

So, does anyone else find it INCREDIBLY stupid that we're turning Mr. Hussein back over to the "interim Iraqi Government"? I mean, let's look at the past here and learn something...but what do I know.

That's right, nothing.

So I'll just shut up now.

that's all.

Da Fence, Da Fence!

wow, this is just an absolute shame. A&M is apparently host to some sort of high school/junior high cheerleading camp. They've invaded the rec, and they're not showing signs of leaving anytime soon. This morning, as I was on my way to the weight room, I was frightened beyond words by some yelling and screaming pubescent teenage girls that were screaming Deefensse, Deefensse, Howld 'em back. I mean, it sounded like a scene from some horrible show that makes fun of Texas accents. It was hilarious, it was disgusting. Poor sad, disilusioned ladies who actually think that someone cares that they can yell together, in their crappy little accents and short skirts. Someone should tell them that in 3 years they'll be sorry they were ever a cheerleader. But in the mean time, I guess I'll just laugh at them...

I think I'm a jerk...

That's all.

It's raining, again...

And as I drove to school this morning, I thought about the song on the new MercyMe album. It's just all too fitting for the day:

Another rainy day
I can't recall having sunshine on my face
All I feel is pain
All I wanna do is walk out of this place
But when I am stuck and I can't move
When I don't know what I should do
When I wonder if I'll ever make it through

I gotta keep singing
I gotta keep praising Your name
Your the one that's keeping my heart beating
I gotta keep singing
I gotta keep praising Your name
That's the only way that I'll find healing

Can I climb up in Your lap
I don't wanna leave
Jesus sing over me
I gotta keep singing

Can I climb up in Your lap
I don't wanna leave
Jesus sing over me
I gotta keep singing

Oh You're everything I need
And I gotta keep singing

- "Keep Singing", Mercy Me

Thought I'd share. It's a really poignant song and so reflective of me right now.

injuries

I think I sustained some injuries during the wreck today. My ankle hurts, and so does my arm...and come to think of it, my neck ain't feeling too swooft either. SERIOUSLY!

I think I'll press charges.

that's all.

BIKE WRECK!!

So on the way back from class today, on my way to work, I had a big ol' bike wreck. That's right - I was just riding along, minding my business and WHAM! out of nowhere this girl comes barreling toward me from around a building and before I could do anything she slammed into me, knocking us both to the ground and bending the back axle on my (actually, Jason's bike) since MINE WAS STOLEN last spring. It's gonna set me back 25-35 bucks to get it fixed/replaced. LOVELY - just what I need, another expense that I can't pay. I swear, my bike luck has gone bad. THIS SUCKS!!

that's all.

The Power of One (or actually, the power of the University student)

Many of you who read my blog were not at church tonight. This made and continues to make me very sad, especially since it was, by far, one of the greatest sermons I think I've heard Chris preach and secondly because of what I am about to explain. Actually, before I get to that, let me talk about the sermon. The scripture was Rev. 21:9(surprise, surprise - ha!) but, the topic was all about how the world has given us a skewed view of ourselves. We find our worth in what we do not what we are. God made Adam as a farmer (that's right, Adam grew squash to feed his family) and he created a need in Adam, and subsequently us, for others and fellowship with them and with God. Adam didn't find purpose in the fact that he was a farmer, he found his place and his value in what God created him for, and in serving God, and in God. Our value is really in what we are, not what we do!
How easily I have been caught up in that lie, though, and as Chris said, it's often even perpetuated most at church. It's not about whether we go off to foreign lands to die for Christ on the mission field, while there is nothing wrong with that, it is that we find God's plan for us, wherever it is and be content in it.

Anyway, I would highly recommend that you go listen to the sermon. It's awesome. Find it here: http://www.cbcbryan.org/sites/document.asp?did=5227 (whenever they actually get it posted online).

Oh, onto the other reason for the post. After the whole meet and greet thing tonight, we started to sing and all of the university folk who were still "meeting and greeting" looked around to notice that we were the only ones still standing. Not knowing exactly what to do, we just kind of stood there looking like the idiots that we are and started singing, and then before we knew what had happened, the ENTIRE congregation stood up, Osborne lastly, looking over at us and shaking his head. It was quite funny.

I say we try it again next week...

that's all.

Crayons, the drink of choice.

Today at lunch Marcela, while coloring me a lovely picture that now hangs on my refrigerator, tried to drink her crayons. She actually picked up the cup, put it to her lips, and then after smelling the crayonness of them, put it back down. Most people didn't see, but I did - it was HILARIOUS!! For those of you who think I am now a heartless jerk for tattling on her, let me just remind you that she brought up the Austria poop bed episode earlier in the meal, so it's just retaliation.

That's all.

Did YOU want to be Annie TOO?

Last night after VBS Micah and I and several other folks went to see the Central coed softball team in action. They call themselves The Crusaders, but I think that Blood Bath is a much more appropriate title, on multiple levels. These guys stomped the competition (despite grandma gertrude and her line drive of doom). I just have to say that "that hoover maneuver is so hot right now." I made some comment to Kayla and she thought I asked her if she wanted to be Annie, too. Under normal circumstances this would have just been a ridiculously odd and out of place comment, and while that might not be so out of character for me, considering my current state of hair, and it's lovely red tint, the comment was actually quite appropriate and highly entertaining.

that's all.

VBS: Friend or Foe?

Last night, oh last night...

What an adventure. Three words, Vacation Bible School, enough said. Yes, my friend. All week I've been helping out with 6th grade VBS class. As of my last posting things were insane, and let me tell you, it only got better as the week progressed:

Monday night - Carter Creek Aerofit Pool Fiasco and Hamburger Cookout. I was attacked, punched, and splashed no less than 5000 times in the 45 minutes I was actually dumb enough to be in the pool at the same time as the children. But hey, it was fun.

Tuesday Night - MSC Bowling Botch. We started the trip off right by smashing the top of our van into the ceiling of the Koldus parking garage. Turns out it wouldn't fit in after all. Then the real fun began with children running all over the basement, in their socks, screaming like banshees. They pushed, pulled, threw 15 lb. balls at each other and I'm fairly certain that at one point someone shoved their friend down the lane toward the pins. HA!

Wednesday Night - Wal Mart Shopping Slip-Up. 4 teams, one mission, buy the most items a homeless family could use in 40 minutes without going over $25. This would've been fun had the children not been running amuck and trying to purchase things like X-Box games and DVD's for the people. All in all, it was a good evening, though. Insane, but good.

P.S. My team won BOTH the dollar amount AND the number of products amount (they didn't know what they'd be facing with a college student shopping at Wal Mart - we're CHEAP!)

AND THEN THE CROWNING ACHIEVEMENT OF THEM ALL!

Thursday Night - Water Game War (emphasis on the war). It all started out as an innocent giant slip 'n' slide and a few games (such as tug of war and fill the bucket). It ended up with the nicest kid (I mean, this guy was the sweetest, best behaved guy the whole week) dumping 10 buckets of water on me, two on one of the other ladies, another one on another lady and then a huge one on the head of the department. Oh, and let me not forget the two rotten eggs that were smashed on my body by the said "good child". It was really hilarious - the kid went psycho nuts on us. I had soap from the slip 'n' slide in every crevass of my body - EVERY crevass. That was quite an "interesting" experience to say the least.

The kids had a great time, and despite all my ravings, I did too. I really hope that we made a difference in their lives, and that they learned a little soemthing along the way, but if not, we gave it the ol' college try.

work.
boredom.
extreme tiredness.

So, here I sit, up at work with little to nothing to do, so I figure - what the heck, I'll blog.

Last night VBS started. I have to say that it is perhaps the most unorganized and shoddily put together thing I've ever seen. They're singing youth praise and worship songs with the little kids, while the kids drool and talk to themselves. It's just bad news all around. Best of all, I'm helping with 6th grade, much to my shagrin and basically last night we entertained them for two hours because they didn't have anything for them to do. It's really ridiculous. Tonight we were going to go to the pool with them to rememdy that, but the rain is making that proposition look not so promising. Guess we'll be stuck at the church again with nothing to do.

Jason and I sat outside last night - it was sooo beautiful - a nice breeze and cool temperature. We had a lovely discussion about girlfriends, commitment, and the future. It was scary - lol. Not really, it was actually really cool. We got to talk about how hard it is sometimes to see thousands around us who are paired off with a significant other. I suppose I'll be single the rest of my life - it's a shame, I would've been a great husband and an even better father.

Nathan and I had a good workout this morning - bench and inclined bench followed up with a 20 minute eliptical jog. The best was when I hit my chin while doing the inclines. It was hilarious, and basically the rest of the set was doomed. lol

that's it for now, until I get bored again.

tchuse!

Hair! (not the musical, but an exciting enough tale to be one)

so, tonight, Micah came over to hang out with me and Big J (aka my roommate, Jason). After sitting and talking for a couple of hours while Micah chomped down on his General Tso's chicken, Jason watched www.makingfiends.com (which, by the way is HILARIOUS!) and me making nameplacards for the OPAS exec mailboxes, Jason decides to hit the sack, and I decide to highlight my hair, something I've been meaning to do since I got it cut last week. So I go in the bathroom and bust out all of the stuff (I've done this several times before, understand) and proceed to highlight. Jason and Micah come in and coerce me to bleach my goatee, so I do. Approx. 30 min later I rinse the goatee and it's crazily white - I mean, so white you can't even tell it's there, so I think that it's probably ok to rinse my hair, too. WRONG! I do, and instead of blonde, I've got orange highlights. YIKES! While contemplating whether to shave my head, or rebleach, or just what to do, Micah and I sneak around the house to bang on Jason's window and scare the bejesus out of him. You see, ever since he moved into my house he complains about the location and the ghetto and how he's scared to be here at night...I think he pooped his pants, all while he was on the phone with his "honey" (hour number 1.56 of 2 today). M and I laugh, and then decide that something must be done about this hideous thing that sits upon my shoulders. We go to HEB and buy some dark red hair dye. I died my hair, and my goatee. They look pretty cool. Pretty scary at times, but pretty cool. Come to church in the morning and witness the wonders of my hair firsthand. Thanks Micah for sticking with me to the end. You're a pal. :) Good night, Ags.

Ashamed

I got a blog.
Despite strong abhorence and desire to avoid the trend.
alas.
I did it.
And I am ashamed.
